Most of us struggle to accept certain things about ourselves, other people, or life. It can be very hard to let go of past events with uncomfortable associations. To make peace with our past means to understand and gently let go of any unhelpful emotions we feel when we recall the past.
Acceptance softens the impact of the past. With the power that comes from acceptance, we can see things from another viewpoint. We gain the strength to think differently in the present and allow the past to heal.
Sarah Cavanagh is a primary school teacher who has been meditating with Brahma Kumaris since 1994. She was formerly a coordinator for events at Inner Space, Oxford, leading a variety of courses and activities designed to facilitate relaxation and self-development. For the last four years, Sarah has been coordinating Brahma Kumaris activities in Newcastle upon Tyne.
